Can the existing backed up data be imported/ingested to new Metallic Platform?

No since this is not a migration, hence the existing data cannot be imported/ingested on the new Metallic Platform.

What will happen to the existing Media Agent?

Since the new environment will have an included Media Agent we can power off the existing one considering the scenario.

What actions does the customer have to take to move?

The customer needs to sign a new contract with SWO, and make sure to have a Global Admin account handy during the onboarding process.

Since, it's a completely new sale, it will require a new opp ID, new calculator, quote and customer PO and Service Contract.

Is it possible for the customer to spin up a Commserve in their own environment just for the purposes of restoring retained data from the legacy service?

Yes, it can be achieved where we can perform an import from SWO’s BackupSimple environment to customer’s newly built Commserve. It can be done using a Trial License (upto a size of 500GB)

Will SWO’s technical team help customer setup the new Commserve Environment?

Yes, but this has to be approved by the respective Service Owners and with equal effort from the local technical team.
