Historical Billing Data

:note:

Applies only to Essentials via SoftwareOne Marketplace with Billing Transfer

Why this matters

When you accept AWS Billing Transfer as part of Essentials via SoftwareOne Marketplace, billing responsibility moves to SoftwareOne as your AWS Solution Provider.

From the effective date of the transfer (the 1st of the following month), you will no longer have access to historical AWS billing data for periods before the transfer within the AWS Billing and Cost Management console, including AWS Cost Explorer.

This behaviour is defined by AWS as part of Billing Transfer.

What we mean by “billing data”

In this context, billing data includes (but is not limited to):

  • Historical cost and usage data in AWS Cost Explorer

  • AWS bills and invoices (PDF)

  • Detailed billing reports and legacy billing views

  • Billing data accessed via the AWS Billing and Cost Management APIs

This does not affect access to operational or usage telemetry, such as Amazon CloudWatch metrics.

What this means for you

After the billing transfer takes effect:

  • You retain full ownership of your AWS accounts, including the management (payer) account

  • You continue to see usage and cost data going forward, under the new Marketplace billing arrangement

  • Historical billing data from before the transfer is no longer accessible in:

    • AWS Billing and Cost Management

    • AWS Cost Explorer

    • Related billing APIs and exports

How you can retain your historical billing data

We recommend exporting and archiving any required billing data before the billing transfer takes effect. Common options include:

  • AWS Cost Explorer exports (CSV or API-based extraction)

  • AWS bills and invoices (PDF and detailed billing files)

  • AWS Cost & Usage Report (CUR), if already enabled

    • Note: CUR only captures data from the point at which it was enabled

  • Exports from any third‑party cost management tools you use

  • Internal finance or reporting system extracts

Important information

  • This behaviour is inherent to AWS Billing Transfer

  • It is not a limitation of SoftwareOne Cloud Essentials for AWS

  • Billing data does not carry over across a billing transfer boundary

  • The same principle applies if you later:

    • Move from SoftwareOne to another AWS Solution Provider, or

    • Move back to direct AWS billing
In all cases, you should retain your historical billing data before the billing relationship changes.

Our recommendation

Before accepting AWS Billing Transfer, we strongly recommend confirming that you have exported and retained any historical billing data you may need.
