How to use Metallic's Guided Setup for Microsoft Azure

This document describes how to use Metallic’s interface to configure Metallic’s Azure Backup

Before You Begin

For Microsoft Azure, the hypervisor represents an application, and you must set up (deploy) the application and tenant before you add the hypervisor to your Metallic environment.

During deployment, be certain to note the following information because it is required during the hypervisor configuration.

  • Subscription ID

  • Tenant ID

  • Application ID and password

  • Storage Account

To complete this deployment, refer to How to configure Azure for Metallic backup .

Procedure

  1. Go to the Hub.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the page, click the menu button , and then select VM & Kubernetes.

    The VM & Kubernetes page appears.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the page, click New Configuration Azure VM.

    The Azure VM Deployment Model Overview appears.

  4. Click Next.

    The Configure hypervisor connection page appears.

  5. Enter the host or the account information for authentication:

    • Subscription ID: Enter the subscription ID for the Azure account.

    • Tenant ID: Enter the tenant ID associated with the Azure account.

    • Application ID: Enter the application ID associated with the tenant.

    • Application password: Enter the password for the application.

  6. Click Create, and then after the successful creation of the hypervisor, click Next.

    The Select content to back up page appears.

  7. Select the content to back up.

    1. Select the VMs that you want to back up.

      1. For the Select a category list, select VMs.

      2. Mark a check next to each VM that you want to back up.

    2. Select a resource group for Azure.

      1. For the Select a category list, select Resource Groups.

      2. Mark a check next to the resource group that you want to back up.

    3. Select an Azure region that you want to back up. This backs up all the VMs in that region.

      1. For the Select a category list, select Regions.

      2. Mark a check next to the region that you want to back up.

    4. Select a storage account that you want to back up. This backs up all VMs in the storage account.

      1. For the Select a category list, select Storage Account.

      2. Mark a check next to the storage account to back up.

    5. Select a tag to include all VMs associated with the selection.

      1. For the Select a category list, select Tags.

      2. Mark a check next to the tag for the VMs you want to back up.

  8. Click Add content, and after successful configuration, click Next.

    The Configure cloud backup storage page appears.

  9. To set up cloud storage, which provides geographic redundancy for your backups, configure the following:

    • Storage account: Select an existing Azure storage account, or add a new account.

    • Cloud storage provider: Select Microsoft Azure Storage.

    • Storage region: Select a region, and then specify the Storage location.

    • Configure a secondary copy: Mark this option to configure the settings for the secondary copy.

  10. Click Next.

    The How frequently do you want your data backed up, and how long do you need to retain the data? page appears.

  11. Select an existing plan, create a new plan with pre-defined settings, or create a custom plan.

    If you opt to create a new plan with pre-defined settings or to create a custom plan, select the necessary configurations and enter the new plan's name.

  12. Click Create, and after successful creation of the plan, click Next.

    Initial setup is complete.
